Advanced Engineering show NDT briefing

Wavelength NDT invited to join BINDT hosted Open Forum at the Advanced Engineering show, 12-13th November, Birmingham NEC (UK).

The Advanced Engineering UK show is one of Europe’s leading engineering sector showcase events.  Over 600 companies will exhibit from multiple and specialised high value engineering companies & manufacturing communities, where engineering technology innovation is key. The Advanced Engineering event also hosts five show–floor based auditoriums where over 200 expert-led technical and strategic presentations will be given over the two days.

This year Wavelength NDT has been invited by the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) to take part in an “Open Forum”, aimed at raising the profile of NDT, which will demonstrate how NDT underpins the advancement of engineering.  Dr Richard Freemantle, of Wavelength NDT, will be focussing on the advanced ultrasound inspection of high performance composite structures for production, QA and in-service damage.

Dr Freemantle explains that “Advances in phased array ultrasound inspection are yielding unprecedented insights into the internal structure of carbon fibre composite laminates.   Beyond routine NDT during composite manufacture, phased array ultrasound can provide high value information for production and stress/design engineers when employed as a diagnostic evaluation tool”.  Pertinent to a cross section of industries examples of phased array inspection techniques and data analysis will be presented including mechanical testing, finite element modelling, fibre waviness evaluation and inspection of complex geometries such as stringer and spar radii.

The expert led BINDT hosted session will take place on Tuesday 12 November in Open Forum 4, within the Composites Engineering sector of the exhibition.

The Event organisers UK Tech Events have also announced that attendees to this years ‘group of events’ will receive, for the first time, post-event access to Open Conference material presented at this year’s parallel events, via personal log-ins, providing attendees “ a years worth of intelligence in one visit”. Some of the other contributing headline organisations to this year’s programmes include HVM Catapult, Technology Strategy Board, UKTI, Jaguar Land Rover, BAE Systems, GKN Aerospace, Composites UK, MIRA, EEF, ADS Group, Safran, WMG, Romax Technology, UK Electronics Alliance, QinetiQ, IHS Automotive, ESPRC and NetComposites.

Additionally 2013’s feature exhibits will include wing structures, landing gear, aero engine technology, high performance sports cars, advanced materials, electric aircraft land speed vehicles, micro-lights, formula 1, advanced engineered components and more.

You can pre-register for the event now via any of the individual show websites OR simply go to www.advancedengineeringuk.com for a FREE ENTRY badge, which covers all five show streams and linked open conference programmes.  Pre-registered visitors will additionally have the opportunity of networking with other pre-registered organisations via the events’ online networking portal.
